Cheat Codes for Every Platform
Cheat codes are a GTA tradition, and Grand Theft Auto V keeps it alive. You can spawn vehicles, become invincible, change the weather, drop from the sky or turn gravity down to moon level. There are three ways to enter them, and a few important limits you should know before you start typing. This guide covers how cheats work on every platform, the full list with PC codes and phone numbers, and the side effects to watch for.
- Cheats work only in story mode, never in GTA Online
- Using a cheat disables achievements and trophies for that session
- Restart the game without cheats to earn achievements again
- Some vehicle cheats only work after you unlock the vehicle in the story
Three Ways to Enter Cheats
On PlayStation and Xbox, enter a sequence of buttons during gameplay without pausing.
Press the tilde key (~) to open the cheat box, type the code and press Enter.
Dial the number on your character’s phone and call it. Works on every platform.
The phone method is the most universal, since it works the same way on consoles and PC and does not require remembering button sequences.

Cheats That Need Unlocking
A few vehicle cheats only work after you have unlocked something in the game or, in the case of the returning-player bonuses, on certain versions. The Duke O’Death (DEATHCAR, 1-999-3328-4227) and the Dodo seaplane (EXTINCT, 1-999-398-4628) must be unlocked before they can be spawned. The Kraken submarine (BUBBLES, 1-999-282-2537) requires finishing a specific Franklin mission first. Director Mode (JRTALENT, 1-999-5782-5368) launches the scene-building tool from the Rockstar Editor.
Side Effects and Limits
Note: As soon as you enter a cheat, achievements and trophies are disabled for the rest of that session. To earn them again, restart the game without entering any cheats.
- Not in GTA Online: cheats are disabled there to keep play fair
- No money cheat: there is no cheat for unlimited cash in story mode
- Invincibility has a timer: PAINKILLER lasts five minutes, then you need to enter it again
- Some cheats toggle: enter moon gravity or slippery cars again to switch them off
Most Useful Cheats for Fun
Players most often reach for invincibility, weapons and ammo, lower wanted level and max health when they just want to cause chaos. Skyfall is a favorite for the sheer spectacle of dropping from the clouds, and the Buzzard is the quickest way to get an attack helicopter. If you want money rather than mayhem, cheats will not help; read Making Money in Story Mode instead.
