A New State on the Map
Grand Theft Auto V poked fun at Southern California: Los Santos plays Los Angeles, and Blaine County covers the dry hills and peaks beyond it. Grand Theft Auto VI heads east to Leonida, Rockstar’s spin on Florida, which the studio sums up as “the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.” Its centerpiece is a rebuilt and far bigger Vice City, the series’ long-running Miami stand-in.
The city has deep roots in the franchise. It was one of the three cities in the 1997 original, became the star of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002 and is now back with modern technology. Anyone who grew up on Tommy Vercetti’s story will feel they are going home.
A Trio Versus a Pair
In Grand Theft Auto V you hop between three leads whenever you like. Grand Theft Auto VI puts a couple at the center instead: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, drawn across Leonida by a criminal plot. It is the first time a main entry has shaped its story around two partners from the opening scene, and how you will control them both is among the details fans most want to learn.
How We Got Here
- December 2023 Trailer one shows Lucia and the new Vice City.
- May 6, 2025 Trailer two puts Jason in the spotlight and shows more of the state.
- Two delays The target slipped from 2025 to May 26, 2026, and later to November 19, 2026.
- November 19, 2026 Release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Is There a PC Version?
For now, Rockstar lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as launch systems. Grand Theft Auto V went the same way, appearing on consoles in 2013 and coming to PC two years later in 2015. Nothing has been said yet about whether GTA VI will repeat that pattern.
The Future of GTA V and GTA Online
Grand Theft Auto V is staying put. Rockstar keeps updating it: in 2026 the studio opened an upgrade route to the current-gen editions, and July brought The Kortz Center Heist to GTA Online. According to Take-Two’s financial reports, the game still moves millions of copies even as its sequel approaches.
Common Ground
Different as they are, the two share a lot of DNA. Each is an open-world crime story set in a mocking portrait of a real US state, each blends a main plot with heists, side pursuits and open-ended exploration, and both are made by the studio that has polished this formula since the jump to 3D. Many mechanics fans love in Grand Theft Auto V, such as the wanted system and missions built around strong characters, are exactly what people hope to see grow in Leonida. Spending time with V today is the clearest way to see the base Rockstar is building on.
